Phil Ramone and Nile Rodgers to headline 'Production Magic' London seminar in November

Guy Chambers, Robbie Williams' former songwriting partner, and Stone Roses producer John Leckie will join Phil Ramone and Nile Rodgers in a plethora of major names set to discuss the changing role of the record producer in a day-long seminar to be held in London this November, writes David Davies.
'Production Magic: Revealing Tricks & Conjuring Business' is being organised by the Music Producers' Guild in association with MusicTank, and will take place at the Magic Circle, situated near Euston Station, on November 11. Topics to be addressed include the ways in which relationships between producers, artists and labels have changed; the evolving producer-manager relationship; and the impact of more exacting commercial demands.
Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers and Jon Kelly - whose credits include work with Kate Bush, Tori Amos and many others - are also scheduled to appear, while a special interview segment will feature distinguished producer/engineer Phil Ramone (Paul Simon, Bob Dylan).
"'Production Magic' is an event conceived to put a positive spin on the art of record production and underline the value of the role that music producers play in a modern music industry," engineer/producer Tony Platt, a director of the Music Producers' Guild, tells PSNE. "Increasingly responsible for the development of the new artists who are after all the 'raw material' of our industry, producers are finding that traditional income streams are disappearing and [there is a need] to find new ways to monetise what we do by embracing new opportunities and developing new business models. Production Magic is a serious attempt to encourage debate about all the issues this raises."
